What does "Wise indeed is he who knows when to follow and when to lead" mean to you? What usually happens to a leader who gets too far in front of his followers? What usually happens to a leader who doesn't lead? (Is behind his so-called followers.) While this quote may sound like Confucius, it's actually a saying that Mr. Peel made up when he was in Junior High School. Make up YOUR OWN saying that illustrates a lesson that you learned in Social Studies/Life this year. ________________________________________________________________ Describe
how you would illustrate your saying in an animated GIF. ________________________________________________________________
Four Characteristics of Leaders (Excerpts from Mr. Peel's Student Survival Handbook.) 1. OPTIMISM Every leader has been an optimistic person. He has shown people the brighter side of life and encouraged them to work to make things better. Leaders are optimistic about the future. "Man who say it cannot be done must not interrupt man doing it." Confucius "When you're getting kicked from the rear, you know you're in front." Unknown 2. ENTHUSIASM Nothing great was ever done without enthusiasm. Leaders are enthusiastic! They don't just sit around and complain about "how bad things are". They don't just "talk" about making things better. Leaders GET GOING and DO something about it! 3. INDIVIDUALISM Leaders lead. They don't wait for a committee to do it! Leaders motivate themselves; they don't have to be told what to do. Leaders don't wait for "someone else" to do a job (they know it wouldn't get done). 4. IMAGINATION "Looking beyond things as they are and seeing them as they can be." Leaders use their imagination to find new ways of overcoming obstacles to their goals. "Everything was once an idea." Unknown "Impossible is the word of a fool." Napoleon "Nothing is impossible with time." Unknown
