Disclaimer: This does not necessarily reflect the opinions of other Team 7 members. It's merely an attempt to generate critical thinking. As a regular attendee of religious services (40+ times a year) and financial contributor, the "webmaster" is NOT making fun of missions, missionaries, or religion. The cartoon was drawn to generate discussion about "mission statements" and nothing else!

Note:  Please read the disclaimer above the cartoon BEFORE reaching a conclusion.
This page was created in the wake of the Enron/Worldcom/Qwest financial scandal.

NBA coach Pat Riley made a lot of money when he trademarked the phrase "3peat". Whoever came up with "Mission Statements" and then sold the idea to public and private institutions must have made a ton of money! The rational is that "If you don't have a mission, you don't know where you're going".

Today, everybody has got to have a "mission statement". Leaders of public and private organizations agonize for days, weeks, and even months over their "missions statements". Enron, WorldCom, and Qwest also had "mission statements" and look where it got them.

Our American Free Enterprise system has provided more goods and services for more people than any system in the history of mankind. However, if we are to continue, it's time to get off the "mission statement" bandwagon, quit following the failed business practices of the past decade, and get on with life. The "mission statement emperor" has no clothes! We hereby offer the following generic "mission statements"...

Corporate Mission Statement: Our mission is to sell enough of a quality product at a good enough price to please our customers and earn a profit for our shareholders...Well DUH !

Public Institution Mission Statement: Our mission is to serve the public by providing the best (fill-in-the-blank) possible...Well DUH !

And, post-Enron, in order to save Americans from countless hours of meaningless meetings agonizing over new, revised "mission statements" - here's our
ethics addition
: ...and to do it ethically.  Well DUH !

Of course, that's just the way we see it !
If you have an interesting story about "mission statements", email the "webmaster".

Note: Opinions expressed are supposed to stir up debate.
Think of a phrase or term that you could trademark and possibly make a fortune.
Search the web: Google.com and type "Enron Mission Statement" or "WorldCom Mission Statement"
What is a mission statement? Do you think they are necessary? Why do you think public and private institutions spend so much time on their mission statements? Do you think the typical "corporate culture" truly reflects the "mission statement" of that public or private institution? Do the employees really know or care about mission statements? *Ask your parents/relatives to state the "mission statement" of their place of employment. Should public and private institutions now scramble to add an ethics clause to their mission statements or should good ethics just be assumed? Should "white collar criminals" be jailed with "hard core criminals?

This is the "Webmaster's" 38th year of teaching and he's probably "Spider Food" by now!
[A real slow learner (and eternal optimist) - he's still waiting for the 25th year recognition award!]

(6th Grade Humor.)
Summer 2008 - Itasca reworked it's website, which broke a bunch of links on our school website, which broke hundreds of Links
on my Seven websites. I'm still trying to find them all !   Please let me know when you find (another) broken link.
(Substitute "itasca.com/school" at the beginning of the broken URL with "itasca.k12.il.us" if you want to get to that page immediately.)
